Meeting the Star Actor!

His Earliest Designs

His first initial designs had many of the same ideas as they do now but with some differences in proportions.

His first Appearance

It wasn't until this sketch that I realized which direction I wanted to go with the character.

Who was this character?

After figuring out what he generally looked like, I had to figure out who he was. What were his motivations, what does he like, and how does he react to the world? These were thoughts I had whilst sketching these drawings,

Who did he play with?

Inspiration for this character's designs came from looking at the seven dwarves from Snow White. I wanted his head to be heavy on the bottom and to have a very prominent nose as the dwarves did. The initial idea called for his wife to be a part of the film, though her appearance was no longer necessary.

Expressions

I wanted this film to feel as 2D as possible in its shape language, experimenting with how this character could react was one of my goals for this expression sheet

Edwin's Modeling

I took all the designs I had of the character and created a rough mold of the character in ZBrush. From ZBrush, I exported the OBJ File and uploaded it into Maya where I re-topologized it with the mindset of how I wanted this character to deform.
